{"id":679,"date":"1997-09-09T01:36:29","date_gmt":"1997-09-09T09:36:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.birdhouse.org\/betips\/?p=679"},"modified":"1997-09-09T01:36:29","modified_gmt":"1997-09-09T09:36:29","slug":"reduce-macintosh-boot-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.betips.net\/?p=679","title":{"rendered":"Reduce Macintosh boot time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><i>Warning: Only implement the following if you know what you&#8217;re doing.<\/b><\/i><br \/>\nThe purpose of this tip is to reduce the boot time of your Macintosh running the BeOS.<br \/>\n<em>You will need the following:<\/em><br \/>\n<br \/>\n1) A MacOS CD or Disk Tools disk<br \/>\n<br \/>\n2) Resedit<br \/>\n<br \/>\n3) The BeOS<br \/>\n<br \/>\n4) A 2 MB hard disk partition<br \/>\n<em>Now, do the following:<\/em><br \/>\n<br \/>\n1. If you have a MacOS CD, get the Disk Tools image.  If you have an actual<br \/>\ndisk, that works too.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n2. Create and initialize your 2 MB partition.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n3. Copy the System Folder from either the Disk Image or the floppy<br \/>\nto your partition.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n4. Copy the BeOS Launcher into <code>System Folder:Startup Items<\/code> on your<br \/>\npartition.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n5. Open the <code>System<\/code> file using ResEdit and remove the first &#8218;ALRT&#8216;<br \/>\nresource (open it to be sure it is the one warning you about not<br \/>\nbooting from a floppy).<br \/>\n<br \/>\n6.
