{"id":515,"date":"1997-09-09T01:36:29","date_gmt":"1997-09-09T09:36:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.birdhouse.org\/betips\/?p=515"},"modified":"1997-09-09T01:36:29","modified_gmt":"1997-09-09T09:36:29","slug":"resize-partitions-for-free","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.betips.net\/?p=515","title":{"rendered":"Resize partitions for free"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;d like to use one of the tips here to install BeOS 5 Personal Edition to a dedicated partition (for example Install <a href=\"\/chunga.php?ID=528\">Personal Edition to a real partition<\/a> or <a href=\"\/chunga.php?ID=526\">Create a Free BeOS Install CD<\/a>), but don&#8217;t own a copy of Partition Magic, there are a number of free tools available that will let you resize existing Windows partitions non-destructively, making space available for a shiny new BeOS partition.<br \/>\nFirst off, there&#8217;s a freeware program called &#8222;<a href=\"http:\/\/members.xoom.com\/Zeleps\">Partition Resizer<\/a>&#8222;, which is an easy-to-use DOS-based program that works well. It&#8217;s not graphical like Partition Magic, but hey, it&#8217;s free!<br \/>\nOnce you&#8217;ve created free space on your hard drive, you can use another freeware program called &#8222;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.users.intercom.com\/~ranish\/part\/\">Ranish Partition manager<\/a>&#8222;, to claim the new free space for BeOS.<br \/>\nWhile Be&#8217;s own DriveSetup is easier to use for most purposes, DriveSetup is <i>not<\/i> a non-destructive partition manager. These tools will let you resize partitions without blowing away your existing OS installations.<br \/>\nGood Luck, and of course I assume no responsibility.
